Timely, useful and engaging feedback to students remains a challenge in higher education. This website is one of the outcomes of a project funded by the Higher Education Academy into the use of screen-captured video feedback in the context of year one laboratory practical work. The project was carried out within the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ulster during the 2013/14 academic year.
The project evaluated student uptake and opinion of generic video feedback as compared with MP3 audio and verbal / written comments on laboratory write-ups. Opportunities to reinforce learning were incorporated into videos to better prepare students for subsequent laboratory work. Production and delivery processes of video feedback were evaluated to highlight areas of potential efficiency gains for academic staff and learning gains for students.
This website will host some of the outputs from the project along with guides to getting started with screencast video and case studies of practice from other colleagues.
